Case Studies - High Schools

Inspired by the positive impact that various colleges and universities have had promoting student health using the social norms approach, a number of high schools have begun to implement their own social norms projects. Predominantly focused on preventing adolescent alcohol and/or tobacco use, the initial success of these efforts strongly suggests that the number of high school projects will continue to grow in the coming years.

Among the first high schools in the nation to implement social norms projects are:

  • DeKalb and Sycamore, Illinois (DCP/SAFE)
  • Evanston Township, Illinois (ETHS)

Both of these projects were designed simultaneously to reduce adolescent alcohol and tobacco use.
